The Ribbon is cut for Residence Inn Stamford Downtown!

We were thrilled to cut the ribbon on December 6, for our much anticipated Residence Inn Stamford Downtown, located at 25 Atlantic Street. The hotel opened its doors Monday, November 21, after two years of construction and a great deal of hard work and collaboration. We acquired the asset in April 2017, after the site sat untouched for two years, causing an eyesore in the center of the city.

The eight-story, 156-key hotel is a Marriott franchise, managed by Urgo Hotels & Resorts. It is the first hotel in Stamford to offer extended-stay lodging and is Downtown Stamford’s only all-suite property.

We celebrated the accomplishment with a champagne toast and heartfelt remarks by our Founder and CEO Dan Palmier and Mayor of Stamford Dave Martin. Sandy Goldstein, President of the Stamford Downtown Special Services District and Kevin Urgo, Principal and Managing Partner at Urgo Hotels & Resorts also spoke. Both expressed appreciation and excitement for UC Funds and its renovated asset.

Palmier extended sincere gratitude to the many individuals and teams who worked closely to complete the renovation. He referenced, “Ubuntu”, the South African proverb that inspired UC Funds’ strong focus on collaboration and relationship building.

“U stands for ‘Ubuntu,’ a South African proverb that means ‘because of you, we are,’” said Palmier. “That’s how we feel at UC Funds. We would have never made it here without the support and partnership of so many.”

Mayor David Martin lauded the hotel’s immediate success. “It’s only open a little over two weeks and you’re already 50 percent booked,” he remarked. “For that, we’re very proud.”

The ceremony officially marked the beginning of a new chapter for Stamford Downtown. The rapidly growing commuter hub will likely experience a significant economic boost as a result of the new hotel. It’s expected to attract droves of business travelers looking for luxurious apartment-style accommodations and easy access to Manhattan and other Northeastern metros.

Of equal importance, The new Residence Inn is an extension of our upscale ONE Club brand and design, used in our recent acquisition and redevelopment of ONE Club Gulf Shores in Gulf Shores, Alabama. We partnered once again with the incredible Jillian Pritchard Cooke, of DES-SYN, to reinforce ONE Club’s first pillar: each guest is “the ONE,” or equally special.

Palmier and Pritchard Cooke also collaborated closely to develop a synergetic design for all guest rooms and common areas. And, as always, Pritchard Cooke’s DES-SYN team incorporated their signature sustainability, keeping health standards a top priority by avoiding toxins and ensuring all products emitted little to no gas.

A new tapas-style restaurant and tequila bar and restaurant in the hotel’s lobby offers the ONE Club brand’s high-end service

Just 30 miles outside New York City, the Residence Inn offers stylish yet understated lodging and almost 2,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel is ideally situated in Downtown Stamford, allowing business travelers easy access to transportation, local dining, and area attractions. like Stamford Museum & Nature Center, The Palace Theater, and the University of Connecticut.

This is an incredible addition to our Stamford Portfolio, which also includes our 2016 acquisition of the adjacent Courtyard Stamford Downtown. The renovation is an important move in our firm’s total capital commitment in excess of $100 million in Downtown Stamford.
